Introducing the "Beda"

I think I've found a solution to satisfy several cravings with a healthier alternative. Notice that I say "healthier" not necessarily an ultra healthy alternative.

I started targeting foods like cheeseburgers, pizza, sloppy joes, etc. Basically "guy foods" filled with carbs & cholesterol. Tasty but fattening.

Basically, I start with a bed of spinach (beda). Simple enough. Certainlyhealthier. After piling a lot of pre-cut spinach on a dinner plate, I am free to add toppings that resemble my favorite cravings... such as ground beef, cheese, pepperoni slices, and even condiments. Then I microwave the entire "beda" for about 90 seconds.

What I discovered is that the spinach flattens underneath my steaming toppings, and I'm left to enjoy a hot "bed of.... pizza... or cheeseburger... or sloppy joe." The heaping bed of spinach is a fantastic substitute for buns, and the toppings are doled out in moderation. The essential factor though is that it tastes similar enough to the real, greasy thing that it actually satisfies a craving! A "Pizza Beda" resembles the flavors I enjoy in a pepperoni pizza, and a "Cheeseburger Beda" is somewhat akin to a cheeseburger! Granted I'm not comparing it to In-and-Out, but it's definitely something worth trying.

Modifying Eating Habits

This blog is dedicated to finding healthier food options whenever cravings call for pizza, hamburgers, pancakes, etc.

When I was younger, I was athletic enough that I didn't have to worry very much about the foods I ate. My weight remained fairly consistent thanks to a fast metabolism, active lifestyle, and reasonable eating habits. However, I have to be more selective about healthy foods and exercise now that I'm entering middle age. As a result, I have been eating meals that are intended to cut down on unhealthy foods... yet satisfy cravings at the same time. I don't necessarily consider this to be another diet plan. Rather, it's an approach to eating that should fit within a variety of diet plans or simply serve as a guideline for improved eating habits.
